Our Story
In The Beginning…
Like so many great ideas throughout history, WillowBend Alpaca Farms began as a fluke… of sorts!
After 40 years in the trucking business and two failed attempts at retirement, Doug wanted to get away and settle down on a “little piece of land” where he could have a tractor, a bobcat, a shop and a barn full of toys. Patti wanted a dog, a cat and a break from traveling.
While searching for ideas that would give both what they wanted and generate a little retirement income as well, Patti’s brother introduced them to “The Wonderful World of Alpacas”. Not that he had ever seen an Alpaca or owned one or even knew much about them, but he had seen a commercial on TV. So much for the theory that television ads do not work! That was February. By April, the property in Forreston was purchased and by May (and untold hours of research) the first three girls were purchased.
Fast Decision? Perhaps! Good Decision? ABSOLUTELY! Even with the hard work, constant learning and continuing challenges, not a day goes by that we do not feel blessed to be in the Alpaca business and surrounded by these wonderful creatures!
That was 2007 and 3 animals…fast forward to a herd of 75 of our own animals and 30+ customer animals…we still focus on personal care and touch of every animal. With the commitment of the people who surround us, we are able to provide each and every animal and customer with the attention they deserve.
